Helen Auburn - Functional Medicine Nutritional Therapist
Dip ION, mBANT, NTCC, CNHC registered

Helen Auburn. Helen

Nutritional Therapy is the use of whole foods as medicine, rather than just fuel for the body. The importance of dietary and environmental factors and their impact on health and disease, and the therapeutic effects of food and nutrients, are based on the principles of Functional Medicine.

This is a science based, holistic, patient-centred approach to assessment, prevention and treatment of complex health problems and chronic disease. Using this method I identify the causes of health problems and address these through an individualized nutrition and lifestyle program.

Some of the health issues I treat include: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, High Blood Pressure, Low Energy, Food Intolerance, Fungal Infections, Anxiety/Stress, Bloating, Painful Periods, Aches & Pains, Mood Swings, Weight Issues, Blurred Vision, Indigestion, Depression, Hay Fever, Migraines, Insomnia, Allergies, Psoriasis, Arthritis, Eczema, Asthma, Acne.

As a qualified and experienced Functional Medicine Nutritional Therapist I can determine whether you have nutritional deficiencies, and advise you on foods that may be causing you health problems, including food intolerances. I can recommend the most beneficial foods and supplements in addition to the right lifestyle changes. This takes the guess work out of nutrition for you, and gets to the cause of your problems, rather than just treating the symptoms.

Individual 4-Step Protocol

First Consultation: We complete the ION Nutritional Therapy Questionnaire together. We will then discuss your health concerns, focusing on the underlying causes. I may also request functional tests from a reputable medical company. These are chosen to add useful information to my decision making process, concerning current and future food, food substrate and lifestyle suggestions.

Second Consultation: After discussing the best course of action, I will create for you a specific and individual food plan, food supplemental additions and lifestyle protocol that will help your body to achieve balance [homeostasis] of energy output, recovery, rest and relaxation that is best suited to your individual needs. 6 weeks support commences.

Third Consultation: To check you're on track or if have any questions.

Fourth Consultation: 6-month review to check that you're on track or if you have any questions.

Lab Tests

I may request functional lab tests from a reputable medical company following the first consultation to add further useful information concerning current and future food, as well as lifestyle changes. This is usually if you have been exposed to a high amount of heavy metals or I suspect pathogens.

All children 17 or under must be accompanied by an adult, and we complete the specifically designed Child or Adolescent ION Questionnaire together. 6 weeks support commences with a review at the end.

Sports Nutrition

I regularly attend sports nutrition seminars to keep updated with the latest research.

I work with sport-orientated clients. Children, as well as adults have found my advice invaluable. Disciplines I have given specific advice for include: Triathlons, Duathlons, Running, Swimming, Cycling and Dancing. Even if your discipline is not on the list my advice may help you to achieve your optimum performance.

Care & Safety

The care and safety of all individuals seeking my care remains paramount. We will be in contact by phone, email, text or Skype, whichever is preferable, after the second consultation. We will discuss any queries you may have. I will coach you to become in control of your health. Quite often, though, once you feel better, that in itself is enough to keep you motivated.
